emeraldB Empties for 2016 – Skin Care

2016 empties skincare

Many beauty bloggers do monthly posts of “empties”. I’m doing a post of “empties” for the entire year, but then again I don’t consider myself a beauty blogger. I really don’t like to waste products so I try to only buy what I can consume. Since I’m not very heavy-handed with products, I don’t generate that many “empties”. But, here are the skin care products that I did use in 2016.

Acure Organics Sensitive Facial Cleanser
This is an affordable cleanser option that is readily available online and locally. I initially tried it as a morning cleanser but found that it worked better as a second cleanse in the evening. I’m able to use it around my eyes without any irritation whatsoever. The cleanser is quite moisturizing and didn’t cause any sensitivity so I would be comfortable recommending it for any skin type. My only caveat with this cleanser is that the thick texture isn’t the best for a facial massage. However, that same thick texture made this tube last for a year with daily use.

Mun Anarose Toner

Mun No. 11 Anarose Rejuvenating Rose Toner
This was my re-introduction to toners. I hadn’t used one in several years, the last being Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion, which has now been discontinued. The Anarose Toner has a rose extract and aloe base which makes for a gentle, hydrating toner that did not aggravate my very sensitive skin. I did not notice any evidence of exfoliation when using this, but it may be that I just associate exfoliation with redness and a tingling sensation.  It does contain willow bark extract. I’ve already repurchased another bottle because I appreciate the extra dose of hydration that this product provides. Mine came a spray top but I prefer to apply it with cotton.

Stark EV

Stark Skincare Everlasting Calm + Smooth Infusion
Everlasting Calm is (or was) a lightweight, aloe based serum. You only need 2-3 drops, applied prior to your moisturizer (or another serum) in the am & pm. The description on Stark’s website refered to it as “instantly-absorbed” and this is a very accurate description. This is one of the greatest advantages of this product. Regardless of the season or the other products that you may use, you can always add this one to your routine without needing any additional time for it to dry. Unfortunately this product is not currently available as Stark Skincare is going through brand refresh at the time of this post. Hopefully this serum will eventually return.

Beautiful Day Cream

Odacite Beautiful Day Cream
This is an excellent moisturizer for use under foundation. It provides sufficient moisture to ensure an even application for a liquid or cream foundation without the need for a traditional primer. It also does not turn my face into an oil slick by the end of the day. While I do enjoy facial oils, I find that creams work better for me under foundation, especially when the weather begins to warm up and the humidity kicks in. The bottle lasted me six months.

RMS Balm

RMS Lip & Skin Balm in Simply Vanilla
This is a coconut oil based balm with a slight vanilla scent. My favorite use is as a lip balm prior to applying lip liner or color. I also find it very effective for additional moisture under my eyes before applying concealer. It allows the concealer to go on more smoothly and without negatively impacting the staying power. It also works well on cuticles.

That’s it for the skincare products that I finished off in 2016. Stay tuned for the second segment of emeraldB Empties for 2016 – Make-up!
